6 DIY Projects To Energize Your Home

Are one of the rooms in your home feeling a little blah? It’s okay to admit it, we’ve all been there. My current apartment boasts a great location, large kitchen and driveway, but lacks a decent sized bedroom. I am forced to edge around my bed in order to get to the other side, not being able to fully open my closet doors without them banging into my bed. Having a small living space forced me to be creative to keep my living space fresh and exciting. Below are some ways to help energize and awaken your space.

1. Paint

A fresh coat of paint is a great way to improve the look of your space with minimal investment. We recommend using calming neutrals and earth tones that are complimentary to each other in order to have more fun and flexibility with your furniture pieces. A new hew is a great way to primp up your palace whether you’re entering a new phase in your life or are just sick of the dull color you once loved.

2. Hardware

The project I decided to tackle to freshen up my space was to revamp my dresser. Simply painting my dresser and buying new knobs made it go from drab to fab.

AFTER

Some great options for buying new knobs (which can be used in your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and everywhere in between) are HomeGoodsAnthropologieCool Knobs & Pulls and our Pinterest board dedicated to Hooks, Knobs & Pulls. Go take a peek.

3. Furniture

Whether you’re practicing feng shui to become more grounded, centered and balanced in your life or you’re just sick of your space feeling stale, simply shifting your furniture around is a great way to make a room feel totally new without having to blow your budget. If there’s clutter in your home, even tucked away in the attic, then it’s also cluttering your mind, as well as the rest of your body. Get it out!

4. Repurpose

Here’s where Pinterest really pays off. Have you ever considered turning your dresser into a console table or maybe an entertainment center? This pinterest-er works wonders by repurposing old dressers. Repurposing can also be as simple as turning a fruit basket into an electronics basket where you corral all of your remote controls. Reuse jam or mason jars to collect office supplies, make up remover pads or other small items in a clean and quirky way. Using things that you already have around the house will make getting organized so much sweeter.

5. Plants

Research shows that viewing nature reduces anger and anxiety along with enhancing the feelings of pleasure. Open the windows and doors, bring plants indoors and even hang up a painting of the great outdoors. 6. Patterns

Simply buying a new comforter, rug or curtain in an exciting pattern is a great way to make your room seem like new. Changing your style from traditional to modern or even shabby chic can do wonders. Throughout the process make sure to purge any unwanted or unneeded items that no longer match or that add excess to your linen supply. There’s no need to have more than 2 sets of sheets per bed and please get rid of the holey sheets that you keep as a back-up but never actually use.
