Avoid the Sunday Scaries by Getting Organized

Who hasn’t had the Sunday Scaries before? Even with a job you love, there is that ultimate feeling of sadness as a fun-filled or relaxing weekend comes to an end. When I feel that anxiety coming on, I do any one or a combination of these things to keep myself calm and prepared for a great week.

Brain Dump/Planning

As an organized enneagram type one, my tried-and-true way to combat Sunday Scaries is to write down everything on my mind. I write what might be challenging in the week ahead, goals I want to accomplish, my meals I’m planning, and anything in between. Make the unknown a little less scary by writing down what you do know, and planning for what you can. Check out our recent blog post on time blocking here – one of my favorite ways to prepare for the week ahead.

Get Moving

Staying put on the couch is not the solution, and we all know it. A trick I love using is the 5-second method. Saying “5,4,3,2,1” out loud or in my head stops me in my tracks (goodbye, overthinking!) and gets me moving. I love doing yoga on Sunday afternoons or evenings, but cleaning is a great way to get moving too. Doing some laundry, vacuuming, or tidying up a few things will keep you busy and check off some to-do list items!

Sunday Self-Care

Make Sunday evenings into the most relaxing, soothing self-care ritual. A face mask and a bath, reading in the candlelight, or watching your favorite show with some tea can do wonders for any anxiety. I love diffusing some Stress Away essential oil in my diffuser.

The last tip I have that never fails is to plan something to look forward to! I like to pack myself a fun Monday lunch, but it could be anything. Dinner out mid-week, wearing your favorite outfit, or a get together with friends on Friday. Having something on my calendar that I know will make me happy gets me excited about the week.

Getting organized by tidying up, creating a meal plan, or time blocking your weekly schedule are all great tools to avoid the Sunday Scaries. Sometimes the best way to curb anxiety is by focusing on something else or doing something for yourself. We hope a few of these ideas work for you. Cheers to a great week ahead; you got this!
