Our Favorite Project of 2024
It’s that time again! Most years, I count down a few of my favorite home organizing projects of the year. But this year called for something a little bit different. The project that we will be discussing in this blog post broke a number of TLD records: most team hours spent, largest Container Store order ever (and their largest at the Peabody, MA store!), and the most vendor collaborations. This project has taken hundreds of hours, tens of thousands of dollars, tons of design time, and the result is truly spectacular.
The Background
This client originally contacted our team in January 2023 to design custom storage for their new home. I went out for a consultation and got my team to work on inventory and measurements for all of their physical items and started designing. I worked closely with Squarehouse Studios and Opus Master Builders to create beautiful, functional storage that met the client's aesthetic vision. Most of the storage in this home was custom built, but I also designed with California Closets and utilized our favorite Elfa Door Racks for additional storage!
While we originally planned to just optimize their storage, we ended up working on this move from start to finish! Our team sorted and purged in the client's old home, packed up everything for the move, coordinated the move day-of, and unpacked and organized everything in the house down to the last drawer divider. We have worked so hard to create the organized home that these clients envisioned and are beyond thrilled with the results.
We truly touched every inch of this home, so the photos below reflect just a portion of the design and organization efforts on this project.
The Kitchen & Pantry
We used bamboo drawer organizers and dividers as well as glass and bamboo pantry bins to maintain a natural look in the kitchen. The cabinets are spacious and leave plenty of room for growth as this family uses the space. We love designating a specific area for utility items in a back pantry when we can! It is so functional and can look really nice when it is organized right.
The Living Space
Books were a huge part of this project in multiple spaces. These bookshelves were designed to fit the book collection just right, with a little bit of room to grow. They are organized by genre and then alphabetically within the genre and beautifully illuminated by lights that are built into these shelves. This dining space also includes an elegant bar and serving area, where we incorporated more bamboo bins to subdivide categories. We were able to fit everything into cabinets and glide outs to keep the surfaces clean and clear.
Functional & Beautiful Kid's Storage
Kids need good design too! We were so excited to design, fill and style the bookshelves in each of the daughter's rooms to be functional and to show off their personalities. They have a place for all of their tchotchkes, jewelry, books and memorabilia. And to keep all of that kiddo junk from school and birthday parties tucked away!
In their craft space, which is wonderfully referred to as the "Girls' Office", we put a lot of care into categorizing and organizing their supplies to make upkeep as easy as possible. Most of the day-to-day items are in drawers for easy access, while the larger and less-accessed items live above in cabinets. We love to design children's spaces to be perfectly organized for their use and maintenance to help them learn to be organized independently.
The Primary Closet
This custom designed primary closet epitomizes beautiful functionality. Every pair of shoes, piece of jewelry, and sweater was considered in this design. The large central island provides a surface to fold on or plan outfits, and gives the closet an open, airy feel while storing a ton. All of the upper cabinets are utilized for bags and bulkier sweaters. This efficient space plan allows this couple to keep their bedroom completely free of clothing storage!
Utility Spaces
The second floor linen closet offers a quick stop for cleaning supplies, backstock toiletries, and all of the linens for the nearby bedrooms. We combined California Closets and Elfa in this closet to maximize the storage without making it feel crowded.
The primary bathroom closet features plastic bins, which are much easier to clean. All of the bathroom necessities are categorized and clearly labeled to make reaching for items as easy as possible.
We are all so grateful for having the opportunity to create an organized dream home for this family. We have gladly adjusted systems as needed and look forward to continuing to support them on their organizing journey!
Here’s to many more beautiful, functional, and organized homes in 2025!
Happy Organizing!
