How To Organize Your Fridge

A lot of frequently liked photos on social media these days include perfectly organized fridges. For some people that means having all of their items in rainbow order, for others it’s switching over to all glass containers and minimizing plastic use and for others it simply means having all of your expired foods outta there. Keep reading as we dive deep into the many ways to organize your fridge!

Basic Organizing: If your fridge is starting to let out a funky smell and you can’t remember when you cooked that taco meat on the top shelf, it’s time to do a full fridge edit. Start by pulling everything out of the fridge. And I mean…everything. Once you’ve pulled everything out of the fridge, give it a nice wipe-down. When the inside of your fridge is clean, it’s time to sort and purge what you have. Chuck any of the expired foods or condiments. If you’re an eco-conscious human, compost as much of the food scraps as you can. If you’re looking for a small kitchen compost bin I personally use and love this one from The Container Store.

Once all of the unwanted items are disposed of, sort your categories. This will make it much easier for anyone to find the juices versus the yogurt and allow you to easily take stock before running to the grocery store.  Lastly, put the contents back into the fridge in their sorted categories.

If you’re looking to step it up a notch, here’s how….

Environmental Exchange: As we all look for ways to better the environment, one option is to minimize your usage of plastic. For any fresh fruits, veggies or bulk grains that need a home, consider containing them in glass containers like these these from the Package Free shop are reusable and will help reduce your use of plastic.

Onto the next level!

Fancy Nancy: We’ve all seen it a la “The Home Edit” where you just happen to have the right number of every color in the rainbow of juice pouches and kombucha. If this is the case, our organizers would love to help you. The secret to this technique is to have the proper bin storage for your sorted items. Once you find the best bin to contain your items, you’re ready to take it to the next level. Looking for the insta-perfect pic? Add some labels! These labels from The Home Edit are fan favorites or just make your own with a basic label maker. Lastly, figure out where they’re going to live on your shelves, door or drawers. Remember to make sure there’s room for any incoming food or leftovers.

How you want to organize your fridge is a personal preference. What matters most is that you have an idea of what’s in the fridge and get rid of anything that is no longer fresh. This will make grocery shopping and meal prepping much more enjoyable. Mission accomplished!
