It’s Wedding Season! What To Put On Your Wedding Registry

Ding, ding, ding! Are those wedding bells I hear? Probably, because wedding season is in full swing! Perhaps you’re the one getting married, or you are the maid of honor or best man of a friend planning to walk the aisle this year. As someone who constantly helps people purge their belongings, I have some advice: Be conscious of what’s going on your registry. I can’t tell you how many clients I have with basements full of stuff from their wedding that they can’t fit into their homes, don’t actually need, or no longer like.

So what are the essentials? Let me tell you:

  1. New sheets/towels—We recommend two sets per bed, and two sets of towels per couple plus another set for guests. So, plan on about six towels total.

  2. Suitcases – Time to upgrade your luggage for your honeymoon and any other lifelong travels! This blog helps you find the perfect suitcase.

  3. Nest – Keep your nest in tip top shape with one or more Nest products. For starters, check out their thermostat, security camera/door bell, and alarm system.

  4. Knife set – If you feel like you’re constantly in the kitchen, take this as an opportunity to be thanked for it and treat yourself to a fancy knife set like Wüstof or Henckels.

  5. Pots/pans – Be wary of getting a large set, especially if you don’t have the space for it or dine out more than you cook However, as with the knife set, now is the time for an upgrade. You can’t go wrong with this brand.

  6. Practical items – Go for a new toaster oven rather than a novelty item like an ice cream maker, popcorn maker, or cakepop mold.

Other alternatives:

  1. Honey Fund – Don’t need more things? Put that money towards a honeymoon!

  2. Down payment – Have your guests help fund your future home through the honey fund as well.

  3. Experiences – Imagine having a couples massage or cooking class already paid for! There are many wedding websites such as Zola that allow you to have guests pay for an experience for you and your future spouse.

  4. Amazon – It has everything! You can even include gift cards to pay for your everyday needs.

Things to reconsider:

  1. Multiples of anything – Glassware, flatware, cooking utensils, casserole dishes…who needs ‘em!?

  2. China – Unless you plan on hosting Thanksgiving for at least a dozen people ASAP, you won’t regret not getting it

Let’s face it, if you and your partner have been living together all this time, you probably already have almost everything you need. Maybe it’s just time for an upgrade on your cooking utensils. But if the first item on your registry is a standing mixer, think again, because it’s heavy, takes up counter space, and is rarely used.
