Ten Ways To Get Organized During The Holidays
The holiday season is the busiest time of year for a lot of people. Whether you’re fully booked with holiday parties, running around to find the perfect gifts, or decorating like Clark Griswold, your schedule can fill up fast. Try using the tips from this list below so you’re not scrambling at the last minute during this festive time of year!
1. To do, or not to do, that is the question. Create a list of all of your to-do’s so nothing is forgotten. I suggest using the Reminders app on your phone. For the more tech-savvy, our favorite online task manager, Asana, allows you to write down all of your tasks, assign them to yourself or whoever is responsible for getting them done, and assign a due date.
2. Make a list, and check it twice. For real. How many times do you ask yourself whether or not you’ve gotten a gift for uncle Frank and Grandma Lucy. Help yourself out and keep track of any gifts you’ve purchased using the Notes app on your phone. Create a table with the gift receiver in one column and the gift in the other.
3. It’s holiday soiree time! Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle by double-booking holiday parties and events (or better yet, forgetting to even show up). Get all of your invites on the calendar using the calendar app on your phone. That way you have your schedule wherever you go and can set reminders leading up to the event.
4. Unsubscribe from the junk. Store sales are happening, which means emails are blasting. Unsubscribe from any unwanted subscription emails with the click of a button using Unroll.me.
5. Go digital. Looking to save some money and minimize other people’s clutter during the holidays? Consider sending out digital holiday cards instead of printed ones. Not only will you save on stamps, you’ll also save time not having to write out all of the mailing addresses.
6. Don’t procrastinate! Time is precious and you don’t want to be on the hunt for the perfect purchase at the last minute. Set a date and give yourself a deadline to have all gifts purchased.
7. Label, label, label! This doesn’t just go for your bins. Make sure you label all of your wrapped gifts as soon as they’re wrapped so there is no confusion as to who gets what.
8. Less is more. Less stuff = less decorating = less un-decorating = less storage needed. This = MORE TIME FOR YOURSELF! Trust me, you’re going to want it.
9. Ask for help. Whenever you can, enlist the help of others. That can mean splitting up dishes, hiring someone to clean pre/post events, or finding an organizer to decorate or un-decorate.
10. Stick to a budget. Contrary to popular belief, now is not the time to splurge. It’s so easy to get out of hand with the frenzy of gift buying and Black Friday sales.
