At the end of every year, we love to take a moment to share some of our favorite projects from the past 12 months. In 2018, we had a particularly special project worth highlighting: the opening of The Little Details Organizing Studio in Cambridge! This project was years in the making, months in the executing, and celebrated during one spectacular weekend in February. Last year at this time we were under construction and now we’ve been open for almost a year. Without further ado, here are some little details about some of the not-so-little projects of 2018!

Kitchen Renovations Part 1: Getting Started
Are you thinking about renovating your kitchen? I just went through that process and learned a lot. When my husband and I bought our first house in July 2016, we discovered that the kitchen was outdated, and the cabinets were grungy and smelled weird. We painted them white, hoping to freshen up the look. This is a great budget-friendly option if your cabinets are in decent shape and just need a facelift. While that did brighten up the space, the interiors still needed updating. Also, the blue counters and fruit tiles were not our style. So, after saving and planning for a year and a half, we took the renovation plunge. Here are some helpful tips that I gleaned from that experience.

Another year has gone by, we have had some of the most challenging projects yet and also some of the most satisfying to complete. We want to share some of our favorite 2017 projects with you. The last 12 months have been filled with noteworthy projects, but a few are particularly memorable. Damage-Free Apartment Decorating
Apartment living has lots of perks. You aren’t committed to a 30 year mortgage. If you don’t like where you are, wait out the lease, or break it if you need to. Leaky faucet? Call the landlord. Pipes burst? It’s not coming out of your pocket! But there are definite drawbacks. Old and outdated kitchens and bathrooms are common. Most landlords don’ t want you to paint, and most don’t even want to refresh those beige or white walls between tenants. Gross. Holes in the wall are usually a no-no. So how do you add your personal style and guarantee that security deposit back? You’re in luck! Damage-free decorating is my middle name. Read on for some great resources.
Should I Stay Or Should I Go?
My husband and I became first-time homeowners of a slightly dilapidated 1,200 square foot bungalow in 2007. At the time, I was newly pregnant with our first child. Although this house was a major step up in space from our 700 square foot rental in Boston, we acquired a bathroom that was top to bottom mint green – toilet and all! With some elbow grease and paint brushes we cleaned every inch, painted walls and cheerfully called our little house home for two years.
What's In Your Toolbox?
I am an avid DIY’er. I’m not always good at it but I try, and I love it when a project comes out the way I envision. When I start any project I make sure I have all the tools I need on hand so I’m not scrambling later on. There’s nothing worse than trying to hold a picture on a wall in the exact place you want it and then realize your pencil is in the other room. A Very Versatile Closet System
WE LOVE ELFA! Wait…I think we’ve mentioned that before. There really is no closet system that we love more. Whenever I see a closet, craft area or heck, any old space, I try to reimagine it designed with elfa and sigh with joy.
