Project Profile: Creating New Systems in Somerville – Part 2!

If you missed it, check out Part 1 of this Project Profile!

This client reached out to us after driving by our studio on Mass Ave. At that time, she and her family had been living in their house for two years but were not quite sure if they were on the right track with their storage, and struggled to create and maintain systems in their space. Her priorities were organizing her basement, office, and garage but after taking a look at her space during our consultation we expanded the scope of the project significantly. This client was ready to tackle her entire house and we were able to apply a ton of different solutions to meet every need. We transformed her office, updated all of the closets on the second floor, and even helped coordinate interior design updates in the primary bedroom!

Please note that we are not sponsored by The Container Store or Elfa – we just love their products!

Check out the links below the before and after photos for some of the products that we used for this project.

The Office

This client is a writer in many different mediums and had previously struggled to pull together an office that gives her space for creativity but also has systems to help her get through her workload. We sorted and purged through every category in her office, including going through two full filing cabinets of old paperwork and dozens of writing notebooks. We created homes for everything in the office closet to give her easy access to often-used supplies.

The Primary Bedroom

We were very lucky to get to Elfa our hearts out in this home. We added some Elfa to the existing built-in closet – the storage that was there was just fine, but it didn't work for these clients. We added drawers, gliding shoe shelves, and lots of labels to help keep everything in order while only removing some of the existing shelving.

The Primary Bathroom

We did some classic sorting & purging in the primary bathroom. This change happened over two sessions – we went through everything, threw away or donated the unneeded items, and then reorganized the cabinets. I ordered some new containers and labeled to give everything a finished feel and to make it easy to maintain!

Containing in Closets

The bedroom of our client’s young daughter was made much more efficient by an Elfa system and door rack. Now her closet will be able to grow with her! We used the door rack for hair accessories and other small items so that she can get herself ready in the morning. We also included a second lower hanging rod so that she has the freedom to pick out her own outfits that’s now within reach.

This client has a multi-purpose room on the second floor that used to be used just for storage. After reviewing the different categories in the room, purging, and considering the many options, we cleared out the room to be used for yoga and meditation. This closet became much more effective when we added a new system to it, complete with a Gift Packaging Over the Door Rack.

It has been such a joy to see the change over time in this client’s home and the benefits that it has had for their whole family.

Did you know that we design and install all of our closet systems? Our all-women team does the measuring, ordering, removal of old closets, patching & painting, pick up of all materials, closet installation, and organization!
