Here are some overall tips for getting your dorm organized and ready to settle in:
MULTI-USE FURNITURE- Instead of chairs, use storage box seats like these that can double as seating and hidden storage.
MAXIMIZE EVERY INCH- Under and above the bed, vertical spaces on backs of doors and with a desk hutch.
BINS & BASKETS = NEW BFF'S- A place for everything and everything in its place... store blankets and throw pillows in baskets, shower caddy and toiletries/styling tools, cleaning and laundry supplies, the list goes on, but the key is to minimize clutter by doubling up on shared items with your roomie, then group like things together, and clearly store and label them so everyone knows where they belong.

Closet Organization
Make the most of your closet space! Skip bulky hangers and choose slim line ones instead, leave room on the floor for a shoe rack and a hamper, use the back of the door for accessories and more shoes (if you're like me and Kim K.).

Common Space Organization
Designate a kitchen/storage area. Put bins together with like items for shared supplies like cleaning, laundry, first aid, drinks, snacks/food, utensils/plates, then be sure to label and maintain bins/supplies.
If you set up a cozy hang/entertainment spot, use baskets or storage bins for extra blankets and throw pillows or board games and cards. Stackable cubes make a great surface area for a TV, game console, charging station, etc.
Communication is key for maintaining a healthy relationship; a shared cork/white/magnet board is a great way to leave each other notes. For example, "Ran out of trash bags, will pick up on my way back this afternoon." Or "Good luck on your history midterm today! You've got this!"
You can also hang a shared cubby near the door for every day accessories, hats, scarves, keys, backpacks/purses, umbrellas, etc.
