How To Organize Your Jewelry

When it comes to jewelry, some of us can become… a collector. Our jewelry collections are a reflection of our fashion, our personality, and some of our most sentimental moments in life. Sadly, often times our jewelry can start to look like a disorganized junk drawer. You may find yourself wearing the same two easy grab pieces all the time, or always trying to hunt down the second matching earring. Here are some of our best tips to organize, maintain and most importantly, to enjoy your jewelry collection.

Always start by gathering all of your jewelry (often times we may keep it in more than one place). Sort your jewelry by type (bracelets, earrings, necklaces, etc.). Consider subcategories as well, such as, chunky bracelets separate from tennis bracelets, or fancy versus every day jewelry. This is the best opportunity to separate out jewelry that may be tarnished and need cleaning or repairing; as well as pieces that don’t mean as much to you and can be donated. Once you have your jewelry sorted by category, it’s time to assign where the pieces are going to live. The Stackers jewelry box line is one of our favorite ways to organize jewelry. You can find it here at The Container Store. They are very customizable to your collection with options and sizes for every piece. You simply stack however many of the sizes that work best for you, and you can even cap it off with a nice wood or glass top.

If you don’t have available space out on a dresser or counter for a jewelry box, they have these great drawer inserts as well. They are expandable so they can fit inside almost any drawer and most importantly maximize the storage space.

You can always find unused vertical space for your jewelry as well. Command products like this jewelry hook are a great way to display your favorite go-to’s so they are in easy reach, or you can use heavy command strips for a larger 11-peg acrylic rack

If you have chunkier necklaces or lots of earrings, another option is a hanging jewelry organizer like this one. The clear pockets allow you to see what is inside each one. I wouldn’t suggest this option for more dainty pieces that can get tangled within the pockets, but if you like to see everything in front of you, this is a great option!

Once contained, your jewelry will be visible and accessible- so you can enjoy every piece! Don’t forget to sort and purge before you purchase the containers. Send us your before and after pictures to feature on our social media!
