How To Organize Your Spices

We have received a lot of feedback from our followers notifying us that you are at home busy organizing while staying inside! We LOVE you for that!

When we asked where you guys could use a little guidance, we had an overwhelming response of "my spice cabinet" which makes sense as many people are at home cooking much more than normal. Keep reading below so you can make the most of your favorite comfort meals with an organized spice drawer or cabinet.

Drawers are prime real estate to store your spices. A gliding drawer at counter height is perfect for quick perusing and protects them from too much light which helps maintain their freshness.

A spice refresh starts with a good clean out. Take everything out of the drawer to help you easily sort. Check your “best by” dates on the sides of the bottle or packaging. One tip is to sort out all expired dates and take a photo so you can re-stock them easily on your next trip to the grocery store. Consider saving the bottles when discarding spices. A spice drawer with all the same bottles will fit everything the most efficiently (and beautifully too). This is also the best time to clean the interior of your spice drawer!

Once you have sorted and purged your spice collection, it is time to determine what solution will work best for you and your family’s kitchen. One great way to organize spices is to lay them in the drawer alphabetically. This works well for me personally since I always love to try new recipes, it helps me find what I need while I am mid-cooking. Another great way to organize your spices is by grouping them categorically. Your categories are going to reflect your cooking style- such as grouping all bbq spices together or grouping by region of the world.

When it comes to implementing products to help keep your spices organized, we love our Expandable In-Drawer Spice Rack by interDesign. It is made out of sturdy, easy to clean, BPA free plastic. It expands from 8” to 14.5” wide so it can really maximize your drawer space. Another favorite of ours is this spice liner from the Container Store. It comes in a 10’ roll that you can cut to size, perfect for extra large drawers. The soft grip material keeps the spices firmly in place for when you open and close your drawer.

If you don’t have a spare drawer to keep your spices, there are other vertical storage options as well. A Stadium Rack or Wall Mount Spice Rack can be found with that link if you view the various options on the page. If you’re still not satisfied, consider purchasing this spice holder from Amazon. Each canister holds an entire bottle of spices and comes with labels so you know exactly what’s in front of you. They can magnetize directly to your fridge or any other metal surface.

We know you will love your new organized spices, and we hope it inspires you to get cooking!
