One zone of the house that can often become undone is the TV console. This area may be frequently used and because of that the mindset could be “why put everything away if I’m going to revisit it again tomorrow?” Unfortunately that can lead to the area becoming more and more disorganized, with a bigger clean up needed rather than consistently putting the area back together after each use. Want to find out ways you can organize your console? Keep reading.

1. Purge old games, DVD’s, VHS tapes - One of the most crucial parts of organizing your TV console area is to go through your collection of DVD’s, video games and VHS tapes and extra cords. Keep in mind that so many movies can also be accessed digitally these days. Donate any of the unwanted items. If you live locally, donate your unwanted media to More Than Words. If you have a lot of home videos on VHS format, consider digitizing the tapes at Everpresent so you can safely save the memories.

2. Use bins or baskets to corral DVD’s, remotes, other controllers - Bin sizes for your media can vary depending on the type and amount of items that you’re trying to corral. Kiva bins are a great example of a decorative bin that can help keep your media in order. This clear storage box allows you to organize your DVD’s and see everything you have in front of you. If you’re tight on space, consider removing your DVD’s from their jackets and inserting them into this awesome alphabetized DVD organizer.

3. Use Cable Tags to identify what you’re unplugging - Have you ever needed to unplug one cable, but you can’t figure out which one it is because there are so many in front of you? Purchase these cable tags to wrangle those cords. They’re fully adjustable to fit cable sizes up to 1cm thick. Bobino cable tag is designed to write on with any ballpoint pen, the ink can be erased for re-use.

4. Label your bins so you know what goes where - No matter what bins you have, bin tags are the perfect solution to label what’s inside of your bins. Not only will this help you find what you’re looking for, but it also keeps it clear where your items can be returned to.

5. Label your remotes so you know what tv/system they belong to - Label makers are an awesome tool that you can use all over the house, including with your media. Oftentimes cable companies will give multiples of the same remote if you have multiple TV’s and it can become unclear as to which remote goes to what TV. Cue the label maker to mark each remote with the TV that it belongs to aka “Kitchen” or “Living Room.”

6. Wind up your cords so they’re neatly organized - One of the major reasons consoles look disorganized is because cords are strewn about. Adding in cable ties or Twist Ties will help solve this problem by corralling your cords together in an organized and neat fashion.

7. Hide your cords so they’re unseen - Similarly to keeping your cords organized, it also creates a cleaner look when your cords are unseen. Once you tie your cables together using cable twisters or ties, these Command Cord Bundlers can help direct the cords out of sight. Then pop them into this cable box to really conceal them in a sleek but accessible way. It can fit a whole power strip inside!

Whether or not your TV console is a frequently viewed area, it is important to keep it organized and tidy for when it is in use. Happy organizing!
