How to Organize Your Underwear Drawer

Happy Fall! As the cooler weather starts to set in and you’re thinking about switching over your summer wardrobe to fall, add your underwear drawer to the to-do list!

Typically we suggest sorting and then purging when organizing, but when it comes to having one category of undergarment all in front of you, purge your undies first. If you have many different types of undies feel free to sort by type and then purge your categories.

Step 1: Purge
Before straightening up your drawers, start by purging any ill-fitting, uncomfortable, hole-y, pairs of underwear. While you’re at it, let’s do your bras too! Wondering how many pairs of underwear you should have? We suggest no more than 2 weeks worth. That should be plenty to wear between weekly or bi-weekly washes. For everyday bras, it makes sense to have a few neutrals and at least one darker color.

Step 2: Sort
Once you’ve completed your purge of unwanted items, it’s time to sort. Sort your underwear by type. For some, sorting full coverage underwear from thongs is enough. If you prefer to take it to the next level and sort your briefs from cheekies, go for it. Like to organize your undies by color? Now is the time to get your rainbow on.

Step 3: Fold
When it comes to folding your underwear and bras, there are two tried-and-true ways. For undies, we suggest folding them in half by bringing the bottom of the underwear to the waistband and then into thirds. Once you have them sorted and folded, you can file fold them in the drawer so you can see all of your pairs front to back.

For bras, we suggest clasping the bra and then laying it flat so each bra can nuzzle behind the other. Stacking bras one behind the other rather than halving them into themselves will help maintain the shape of the bra cups.

Step 4: Contain
If you’re looking to contain your bras and underwear further than inside the drawer, you can use drawer organizers like this or  this to keep your categories together. Looking to keep your bras organized with your underwear? Check out this option. Looking for something simple? Purchase drawer dividers that will keep your categories separated and free from collapsing on each other. Like with any product, measure your drawers first to make sure that your product will fit in the designated area.
