Laundry Room Organization

Does anyone else’s laundry room look like a mini tornado? Okay, a full-blown tornado? Maybe you’ve decided to shut the door and worry about more important things. Unfortunately, the time always comes around where you need to tackle laundry day. It can definitely be overwhelming, but with an organized space and a touch of decor, it can be a breeze.

Shelving

Laundry rooms vary in their design and size making it challenging to get organized. The best recommendation we can make is to use your vertical space. Adding shelving gets your detergents and supplies off your machines so you can keep them clear. Any readers know by now that we love the elfa system from the container store, but any shelving will do. Next, add labeled bins like these on your shelves to create assigned, stylish homes for your supplies.

If you prefer to have everything hidden behind closed doors, see if you can have cabinets made for the space instead. Choosing between open and closed shelving is all about personal preference and there is not one right way to do it.

Hanging Space

Hanging space is always necessary for clothing that can’t be tossed in the dryer. Closet rods can be added to an elfa system however some laundry spaces may not accommodate a full rod. Our recommendation? Use fold-away drying racks you can mount on a wall like this or this option. Don’t want to install anything? Try this free-standing hanger.

Now that you’ve incorporated hanging space, make sure you have the right hangers. Although we prefer slim-line hangers in closets because they save so much space, you may want to opt for these wood shirt hangers in your laundry room for less chance of wrinkles while your clothes dry.

Laundry Hampers

There are a ton of different laundry hampers to choose from. If you’re going to be rolling your bin from one room to the next, purchase a laundry cart with wheels. Stasia loves this Steele Canvas Laundry Cart and has it for herself, can you guess why she loves it so much? (hint: it has to do with her last name)

If you’re tight on space, check out laundry hampers like this or this one which are both collapsible, making storage much easier. If you prefer to sort your laundry by color before you get to the laundry room, pick out a hamper like this that is already separated into two sections. If you have enough space for elfa drawers in your laundry room, we love using them as a way to sort your clean or dirty clothing as well.

Make it fun!

A place you know is dedicated to a routine chore should at least be a bit fun. Adding an accent wallpaper or unique floor tile can really change the feeling of the room. You may be hesitant to try something bold in other rooms of the house, but hardly anyone sees your laundry room. We love Chasing Paper peel and stick wallpaper because it’s easy to use but doesn’t have to be a lifetime commitment.

I like my supplies out of the bulky containers they come in. How pretty are these laundry soap dispensers and labels? I love these, too.

Looking for an easy, transportable way to contain your detergents and laundry room needs? Purchase a cart to store your supplies. Depending on where you purchase your cart from there are different color options you can choose from to add just the pop of color you were looking for.

Our Favorite Products

Our best secret to get you loving laundry day? Any items from The Laundress. A sustainable, women-owned business with all the answers to your laundry needs! Our favorite products are their stain solution and sport detergent (seriously, this stuff can’t be beat!). If there are detergents and spot removers that you are no longer using (perhaps you dislike the scent), check to see if you can donate it to your local animal shelter.

Another client-favorite laundry product we love are these wool dryer balls. Great with a few drops of essential oils to have your clothes smelling amazing and properly fluffed!

We hope this blog got your wheels turning and that maybe you can implement a few of these ideas in your laundry space. If you’re now totally rethinking your space and might need some help, give us a call!
