How to Organize Your Jewelry

Raise your hand if you have trouble organizing your jewelry. It may be due to a surplus or just not finding the right organizing system for you. Regardless, there are many ways to organize your jewelry so that you can see it and enjoy it whether or not you’re wearing it!

As always, we encourage you to sort and purge your jewelry as you would in organizing anything else. Depending on what and how much you have, consider matching sets together, or sorting your jewelry by type (necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, etc). Depending on how much you have, you might want to have subcategories within your jewelry ie: yellow gold rings separated from sterling silver or studs versus hoops.

Next, purge any jewelry that you no longer desire. Perhaps you can give it to a family member, donate it to a local organization like Solutions at Work or Dress for Success. Another option depending on the type of jewelry would be to reset it in a different way so that you enjoy it.

Once you’ve sorted and purged your jewelry, it’s time to figure out how you want to store it.

To display or not to display…that is the question:
The first step is to figure out if you want to have your jewelry displayed or not. This could mean that you have some of your items displayed while others are tucked away, but either way it’s time to make that decision.

For those of you looking to display your jewelry, try finding a jewelry tree. What we like about these organizers is that they can store all sorts of jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, etc.) rather than just one type.

Customizable:
Looking for a customizable option? One of our favorite jewelry organizers are Stackers from The Container Store. You can purchase different inserts to create your own “stack” of jewelry trays suitable for your needs. Here’s another similar acrylic option.

Wall space:
If you have some wall space that you want to display your jewelry on, check out these 3M strips that you can adhere to your wall without causing any damage.

Contain, contain, contain:
Got a lot of rings and earrings? Check out this storage option. Rather than worrying about losing the mate to your earring or getting things tangled, these acrylic compartment boxes are perfect to keeping your jewelry together.

Hide inside:
If you have a decent amount of jewelry that you want to put away, but don’t have the drawer space for it, purchase a hanging jewelry organizer. Don’t forget to keep your jewelry categorized within the pockets! If you organize your outfits by color, sort your jewelry by color too!

Fancy Nancy:
Have a lot of jewelry? Search for a “Jewelry Cabinet” to see what you can find that can store large amounts of jewelry. See if you can find one that is multi-purpose with a mirror on the outside or storage or other accessories on the inside.

No matter how much jewelry you have, it’s best to keep it organized so you actually wear it!
