Outdoor Toy Storage

Happy Summer! Time to bring organization outdoors. Garages, sheds and even the backyard are an extension of our playroom during the summer. Now is the perfect time to go through your family’s outdoor toys and create fun AND organized areas.

Sort and categorize your inventory- sometimes it’s helpful to categorize by family member (and assign by color). You can also sort by activity, assigning homes in strategic areas. Categories for outdoor storage include pool toys, sports equipment/balls, and outdoor games. Here are some of our favorite solutions that can tame the clutter.

Great colorful bins can help keep a space organized. These rolling bins are great to stack in a garage and have wheels to move from indoors to outdoors. They have latches on the side providing a tight seal. If you choose to use colored bins make sure you label them clearly so you know exactly what is inside of them. Otherwise, use clear bins so you don’t have to guess what’s inside.

You can also invest in a storage bench. This deck box bench from Home Depot is great for storage- it has a 70 gallon capacity and locks to keep contents dry. Deck boxes are a great attractive option for hidden outdoor toy storage.  Other great places to shop for deck boxes are Wayfair, Pottery Barn, Frontgate and Ballard Designs.

This storage rack from the Container Store is great for sports equipment. It has a deep divided bin at the bottom, and a shallow basket above. Side hooks can be used for helmets, hats, or a water bottle.

If your garage allows for extra outdoor toy storage, don’t forget about a custom Elfa option. There are so many different hooks, shelves and baskets that can be used to corral all sorts of items including sports equipment, hoses, gardening tools and beach toys.

Sorting and purging your items is always a great first step to your organization projects. Finding the best containers and creating organized outdoor storage will help you maximize the fun in your summer!
