Project Profile: Playrooms

We love to organize playrooms. They are dynamic, highly varied, and incredibly joyful spaces in every home! No space has a cookie-cutter solution, but a playroom needs to be especially customized. The age of the child, their interests, the type of room that is available, and the size of the toys are just a few of the elements that we consider. We have created Lego building havens, slime stations, craft corners, stuffie towers, and so many book displays to support children in both play and staying organized!

Check out a few of our favorite solutions for playroom organizing from recent projects.

Stuffed creatures are precious to lots of kiddos but boy, can they take up a lot of space! If you have some spare shelving to house your stuffies safely, that is one great option. We arranged this whole family of fabric friends so that they would all be visible in the playroom!

Hanging nets are another great solution for stuffed animals if you have a smaller space. Your kiddos' furry friends are still able to look around, but they are very efficiently stored off the floor. Make sure to keep their favorites near the bottom of the stack so that they can still access them, and drill these nets into wall studs if you can. These nets are one option.

Do you have a playroom that is also a passthrough space? There are storage solutions for that! This family wanted to create a cozy play space for their two kids but did not have a dedicated room. They turned this open space into a cozy play corner using mounted bookshelves and modular play tiles that look like an area rug! There are lots of different pattern options and combinations. Using tiles rather than a large play mat is a great option to fit your space just right.

Cube shelves like this are also a good option for a playroom - they are sold on Amazon, Target, Ikea, and more. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and usually include baskets that fit perfectly. They are also very often available pre-owned on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Elfa can help you create a customized and adjustable playroom, whether you have a whole room or just a closet. We love to use drawers and door racks in these spaces because they are easy to label and kiddos can quickly put things away without needing to fuss with a bin.

This client didn’t have the benefit of a full room for play, but they made the most of this closet with clear categories and a space for everything.

BONUS: Playroom Labeling

Making a system to set your kids up for success is the easiest way to a tidy space. Creating large, clear, and specific labels will be incredibly helpful with cleanup! We label in spaces for kids of all ages and this additional detail always make upkeep easier.

It is such a joy to create spaces for our clients that are dedicated to fun! An organized play space creates an opportunity for you to enjoy toys and crafts rather than worrying about how it will all fit back together.
