Project Profile: Move Without Seeing a Single Box

Move management can mean a lot of things. For some clients, we support by packing or unpacking just a few things to make their move a little smoother. For others, we just unpack the boxes that have been packed and moved by professional movers. We also offer full move-management, including sorting and purging, packing, managing the movers and facilitating the move day, and unpacking and organizing into the new space. Even for this last step, the client is usually involved every step of the way.

But for a recent move project, we worked with the client on only sorting and purging, and then they left the country for the summer! We organized, ordered materials, packed, prepped, managed movers, worked with both apartment buildings, and fully unpacked and organized this client while they were out of town. They returned home to a new apartment, fully unpacked and organized!

Sorting & Purging

We met with this client as they were on the hunt for a new apartment and trying to figure out their next step. They didn't have an excess of stuff and the apartment was not large, but there were still vestiges of their recent major life changes to go through. We worked through the apartment together, room by room, to review and cull whatever was no longer serving them. Getting to know the space and how they liked to have things organized was really helpful!

Planning the Move & Packing

One the new apartment was picked, we talked through the hard logistics – When does the new lease start? When are you able to access the apartment? When would you like the actual move to happen?

Once we landed on facilitating the move after they were out of the country, the scheduling was up to our team. We contacted the moving company for moving supplies, scheduled the furniture prep day and moving day, and reserved loading docks at both apartment buildings. We also scheduled plenty of sessions with our team to pack up the whole apartment.

We also visited the new apartment with the client and discussed how we would lay out furniture and labeled everything to make the move day a breeze.

Moving

A move day is never 100% smooth, no matter how carefully you prep, so we gave ourselves plenty of time on every end of the process to ensure that the details were covered.

We finished packing final things on the morning of the move day and carefully packed our cars with the most precious cargo – plants! Then we supervised the movers to make sure that every box, piece of art, and item of furniture was carefully managed.

We drove to the new apartment and ensured that the loading dock was ready for us. As soon as the first boxes arrived in the new apartment, we started unpacking! We moved boxes into their allocated rooms and began the process of getting everything out of paper. We were able to have the movers take away a bunch of the boxes and packing material by the time that they finished moving and re-assembling all of the furniture!

Unpacking & Organizing

Because we spent all of that time organizing before the move, unpacking was a breeze. We knew where we wanted things to go and knew that our inventory was accurate with the needs of the client in their new space.

After all of the items were unpacked, we started considering product. We had some organizing products left over from the old apartment, but they weren't all right for the space. We sent a very long and detailed product suggestion list, along with photos after every unpacking day, to make sure that the client was up to date on our progress and could get a good idea of what their new space would look like. We even helped to pick out some new plants to bring more life into the space!

Moving in!

A week after we finished unpacking, and a cleaner had the chance to give the apartment a good clean, our client came home from their trip and moved in. They said it was "like magic" to return to a totally unpacked and organized home.
