Project Profile: Creating New Systems in Somerville – Part 2!
This client reached out to us after driving by our studio on Mass Ave. At that time, she and her family had been living in their house for two years but were not quite sure if they were on the right track with their storage, and struggled to create and maintain systems in their space. Her priorities were organizing her basement, office, and garage but after taking a look at her space during our consultation we expanded the scope of the project significantly. This client was ready to tackle her entire house and we were able to apply a ton of different solutions to meet every need. We transformed her office, updated all of the closets on the second floor, and even helped coordinate interior design updates in the primary bedroom!
To File Fold, or Not to File Fold, That is the Question
Professional organizers have all kinds of tips and tricks. File folding, popularized by Marie Kondo herself, is one of our favorite ways to save space and keep clothing tidy. Our clients are often shocked to see how much more we can fit into their drawers. But, is file folding right for you?
5 Items to Purge From Your Linen Closet Now!
Linen closets are one of the most straightforward places to organize. Linens, toiletries, and medicine are the only categories that really belong. Although it’s a high-use, generally organized space, you’d be surprised at what may be in the back of yours! As for quantities of sheets, towels, etc.; decide what you think you should own before going through your linen closet. Generally, two-three sets per bed in your house is a good rule to follow, two towels for each person, and four towels for potential guests or if laundry day gets postponed. Keep reading for 5 things you should remove when going through your linen closet.
Wabi-Sabi and the Imperfectly Perfect Lifestyle
“Wabi-Sabi” is a Japanese term that means imperfect, impermanent, or incomplete. Wabi refers to living with simplicity while being at one with nature, and sabi is defined as the ability to accept the lifecycle of anything as it is. To live a wabi-sabi lifestyle, you recognize and embrace that imperfections are perfect.
Project Profile: Over the Years at Central Square Florist
I met Jackie and David Levine in the spring of 2018 at a networking event for small business owners in Cambridge. Their family has been a pillar of the Cambridge business community for almost 100 years – Central Square Florist has been family owned and operated since 1929. I was thrilled to invite them to see our newly opened storefront just down the road from them on Massachusetts Avenue. This was the beginning of a fabulous working relationship with the Levines and Central Square Florist.
Project Profile: Move Into Your Dream Closets
This family bought their dream home in Somerville this winter, just down the road from where they lived for the past few years. Moving into a new build is exciting, but the lack of shelving and storage in the closets was a clear downside to the house. Our clients wanted to be able to move into their dream closets too, so they hired us to see what we could do.
How to Organize Your Workout Gear
Organizing your workout space can be tricky due to the heavy and often oddly shaped equipment. Especially since a lot of us have leaned into working out at home since the pandemic, you want a space that feels separate from your office or dining room, while looking organized and tidy. Let’s review some of our favorite ways to organize workout gear.
How to Organize Your Recipes
Many of us who grew up cooking with our families have memories of a recipe box. My family’s recipe box is wooden with a painted floral design and belonged to Alice “Nana” Mantho, my maternal great-grandmother. It is full of index cards with typewritten recipes and handwritten notes to add a tablespoon here or a few minutes of additional cook time there. We referenced the same few cards over and over again and they became stained with sugar, cinnamon, and buttery fingerprints.
The recipe box (with handwritten notes and well-loved index cards) is a classic way to organize recipes, but it is not the only one! Recipe organization is challenging because it is so dependent on the personal preferences of the chef – some people cook exclusively with physical recipes out of books or printouts, while others prefer to go all digital to reduce clutter in the kitchen.
Project Profile: Practical Magic with Hauswitch
Every project brings excitement and challenges to overcome, but we can tell pretty quickly when we have a new favorite. I met Erica Feldman, Hauswitch’s ‘Head Witch in Charge’, at a retreat for women entrepreneurs a few years ago. This year she was in the process of transforming her team’s production/office space and reached out to see if we could optimize their storage to help them grow and streamline their processes.
How to Plan the Perfect Vacation
So you’ve picked the place, booked your flights and hotel, and you’re counting down the days until your vacation. Hooray! Now what? As dreamy as vacations are, they can be overwhelming and stressful to plan. I went on a 10-day California road trip last year and used a new strategy to plan our days that I can’t imagine not using going forward. It was the perfect planned but not so planned harmony! I’m sharing my step-by-step guide on how to plan the perfect vacation, especially if it’s somewhere you haven’t been to.
6 Tips for Selling Your Items Online
One of the biggest things we hear when we go through the purging process with clients is, “I never wear that, but it was so expensive!” or “That’s my grandmother’s and I hate it, but it might have value.” Our solution? Let it go but get something for it! We’ll be the first to say that selling items online isn’t always easy. It takes time and effort, and you first need to decide if that’s time and effort you want to spend, rather than just loading up your car and dropping things off to your local donation center. If you do want to try to sell items online, keep reading and we’ll share everything we’ve learned.
How to Organize Your Media
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my physical media. My home has always been filled with books, CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records. While space restrictions have forced me to downsize my collections, keeping these items in my space is incredibly important to me. Contrary to popular belief, not all organizers are minimalists! I don’t just love to have them available for viewing, reading, and listening, but also as part of the decor that makes my apartment feel like home. You can stay organized while holding onto the things that bring you joy, you just need systems that work for you.
How to Organize Your Paperwork
Paper is one of those things in your home or business that you typically keep for the “just in case you need it” moments. When paper is left unattended, it piles up quickly before you even realize and most often, you can never find it when the time comes. If this sounds like you, don’t sweat. Here are some tips for organizing your documents.

Best Practices for Putting Together Furniture
Whether you’re moving, experiencing a major life change, or are ready for something fresh in your space, purchasing new furniture can be stressful. These days there is an enormous volume of budget and style-friend furniture available from a variety of vendors, but they come with an additional cost: you often have to do the assembly yourself. Items from IKEA, Amazon, Wayfair, and other low cost merchandisers require time and patience to properly assemble, but there are ways to do it right!
How to Organize Your Holiday Cards
Congratulations, you survived the holidays! It can take a few weeks to settle back into a routine after the craziness of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, and all of the other winter celebrations that we enjoy with our loved ones. And once you finally have your decorations put away, gifts are put to use, and your in-laws are blissfully out of your space, there is one last organizing hurdle: holiday cards.
