Small Space Living
When I bought my first house, I moved out of the city to a nearby suburb. I had a huge back yard, garage, nearby park, and 700 square feet to call my own. That’s right, 700 square feet. I am the only person I know who downsized from an apartment to a house. I love my little house, and have figured out some great ways to pack more storage into it. Read on for some tips to make your small space work overtime!
Multi-Purpose Storage Pieces
At The Little Details, we love using multi-purpose pieces of furniture. For example, a storage ottoman is great for holding blankets, books, toys, and countless other things. Close the lid, and it becomes a comfy foot stool or a place to corral your remotes. We often look for pieces that are used for things other than their intended purpose. Here are a few tried-and-true products we love!
It’s Time To GO (Get Organized)!
In the organizing world, January is Get Organized (GO) month. For organizers, every month is GO month, but not everyone feels that way. For many, GO month may evoke an overwhelmed sigh or the desire to crawl back under the covers. In the spirit of the new year, let’s tackle your resolution to get organized!

Giving Back To Your Community
During the holiday season, businesses, charitable organizations, and individuals tend to raise awareness of their particular causes. This is a wonderful time of year to give to charities, but contributing what you can is just as important during the other eleven months. Even on a tight budget, there are some great ways to give back to your local community throughout the year.
Useful Stocking Stuffer Ideas
One of my favorite things about Christmas is stockings. I love hanging them on the fireplace, picking out personalized goodies for friends and family, and opening my own stocking on Christmas morning. Finding fun and useful gifts can be a challenge, though. Many people experience last-minute holiday stress and just reach for the easiest fillers.
Fear not! After tireless searching, I have found the right mix of stocking stuffer ideas to keep your nearest and dearest feeling merry.
Damage-Free Apartment Decorating
Apartment living has lots of perks. You aren’t committed to a 30 year mortgage. If you don’t like where you are, wait out the lease, or break it if you need to. Leaky faucet? Call the landlord. Pipes burst? It’s not coming out of your pocket! But there are definite drawbacks. Old and outdated kitchens and bathrooms are common. Most landlords don’ t want you to paint, and most don’t even want to refresh those beige or white walls between tenants. Gross. Holes in the wall are usually a no-no. So how do you add your personal style and guarantee that security deposit back? You’re in luck! Damage-free decorating is my middle name. Read on for some great resources.
Dorm Room Checklist
Calling all college students! This blog is for you. Let’s be honest, unless you’re at a posh school I don’t know about, your dorm room is not what you see in a catalog; bright painted walls, white washed wood floors, tons of storage space, new and clean…it’s more of a 10’ by 10’ square cell with painted cinderblock walls that you’re forced to share with someone you probably don’t know. Whether you’re a freshman or a soon-to-be graduating senior, here are some items we think will make your small space feel roomier and more functional.

There are so many tools and products that you may need for any given project, but there are several that are my go-to’s for every project and I wanted to share them with you.
